1. Policy Statement & Vision
Starting nursery is a momentous milestone for both child and parents. Our Settling-In Policy follows ADEK's best practice framework to ensure a gentle, joyful, and emotionally secure transition that respects each child's individual personality, home language, and developmental pace.
2. Key Person Approach
Every child is allocated a dedicated Key Educator who forms a close, loving bond from day one. The key person learns the child's home routines, comforting habits, feeding preferences, and favorite play activities, offering consistent emotional warmth.
3. Gradual Transition Schedule
We recommend a progressive settling timeline:
• Day 1: 1 hour stay with parent or guardian present in the classroom.
• Day 2–3: 2 to 3 hours with brief parent departures as the child demonstrates comfort.
• Day 4–5: Extending to mid-day / lunch periods.
• Week 2: Transitioning toward the child's full enrolled daily schedule.
Adjustments are made collaboratively depending on how quickly the child feels confident and safe.
4. Comfort Items & Reassurance
Children are warmly welcomed to bring a comforting home item (a favorite blanket, soother, or soft toy) to provide reassurance during naptime and transition moments. Educators share updates and photos with parents to bring complete peace of mind.
